I was reading CFSilence today and saw Todd Sharp’s post asking what’s your favorite easter eggs. He’s talking about website easter eggs, but I just remembered one which is not on a website, but on ColdFusion MX

Yeah that’s right, it’s on your ColdFusion administrator.

If you wanna see it, just open your IE (6 or 7), go to: Tools –> Internet Options –> Languages. there you add a new custom language called CFML

Then go to your ColdFusion Administrator and click on System Settings and a pop-up should show up.

It works on either CFMX 6 to 7.2 or Scorpio. I guess I can add this to my Scorpio Checklist ;-)

Have fun…

UPDATE: Make CFML the first language on the list otherwise it won’t work

  1. Yeah, it’s pretty old stuff. I just remembered when saw the word easter egg. Shall we treat this word as a new buzzword for 2006 :-)

I’m gonna try to find a new one for Scorpio!

I am not seeing the easter egg. Perhaps I did not perform the steps accurately. Can you email me offline with a little more detail? I am using CF 7.0.2 with the new hot fix and IE 7 with SP1.

    Cheers

Click on System Information at the top of the screen – not system settings. Very funny – but a little creepy ;)

After you’ve added "CFML" as a language, highlight it and click the "Move up" button so it appears first. Close out of the language preferences and the Internet Options panel, then click the "System Information" link along the top of the Coldfusion admin page.

Yeah, "a little creepy" was what we thought too when an outside Marketing company gave us the "blue baby" as a marketing add icon back in the CF6 days…we were pretty horrified actually :) and thankfully it never left the building as an advertisement (I have the original mockup in my office with the copy, etc. But we thought it was worthy of an Easter Egg :)

If it makes anyone feel any better, I’ll give the official statement "No features were harmed or sacrificed in the making of this movie…." :) (All work was performed off-hours)

I heard a rumor there’s a rockin one for Scorpio coming but it’ll be much more interactive and interesting…if the wives cooperate and let the engineers spend personal time on this :)

It sorta works in IE 5.2 for Mac – but requires a Flash plugin for which IE is apparently too antique to use. And i think it should theoretically work in FF since you can set your own encoding, but I can’t figure out how to actually definie the encoding. Content – Fonts & Colors, advanced. As for Safari, no way to set your own encoding, far as I know.

  8. That is just plain crazy… try and make the picture go cross eyed, hehe.

  9. Daddy, Daddy, your server software is suffocating me!!!

It’s ok, son, you’re hellspawn anyway, born to the roll of a 20-sided die and conceived in the warm glow of a SciFi Friday Night… so you can never die!!!

Thanks, though, I wouldn’t have ever found this on my own.

I’m going to also say that is creepy as all heck, but it also reminds me slightly of Monty Python’s cartoony work by Terry Gilliam.

What can I say, it is truly an honor to just to be nominated as Creepiest CF Easter Egg. Sorry I made it rather difficult to discover… I figured some CF alpha geek would reverse engineer the admin eventually, but I gave in and gave out some hints. Thanks for the nice blast from the past!

Hey, at least it’s not Hot Coffee.

  13. Hello :

Would you be able to include on your website some of the most discreet kind of publicity in exchange for a fixed monthly income? I am referring to a text link on the side bar of a blog. It looks just like when you link one of your friends on your blogroll, but you get paid for it!

We are a web marketing firm; thanks for letting me know if wish to monetise your blog with us.

    Sincerely,

    Amos Singarella
