A more elaborated jQuery Drag & Drop (with cloning)

I've decided to get back at jQuery draggable and droppable to a personal project I've been working on. In the past, I've demonstrated how to do basic drag and drop, but this time I needed something a little bit more elaborated.

I won't spoil my personal project by showing what it id before it gets done, but I'll show here an example of what I wanted to accomplish which will use pretty much the same functionality, but in other application.

The idea is:

Learning jQuery 1.3 - Book Review

Book reviewer Marcos Placona | Publisher: Packt. Author(s): Jonathan Chaffer, Karl Swedberg

This book is aimed to jQuery beginners, or for those with more experience who need an extra help on that difficult situations.

You probably read my review of Learning jQuery back in 2008 where I described every single feature on each of the chapters.

This time, I'm not going to describe every single chapter, as I think it would be pretty much a repetition of the previous review, but adding a few things. I still think this book is a must if you want to learn jQuery, or even if you are familiar with the library.

jQuery UI Updates

The jQuery UI team has just started a weekly series on what's happening with jQuery UI.

They will be posting a sort of digest on a weekly basis talking about releases, and news.

This week they came up with a list of companies using jQuery UI:

  • ESPN
  • Capcom Europe
  • LiveSlices
  • DotNetShoutout

And to my surprise I was mentioned on the book section, due to my book review on jQuery UI 1.6: The User Interface Library for jQuery.

They've also featured some tutorials and a Q&A

The jQuery UI team has marked a major milestone for the UI. Today they released version 1.7 with some nice updates, and also put their own dedicated blog live. I've been using the beta version for quite a long time now, but will be going for the 1.7, as it's more stable, and has all the complete features. Some of the changes made by the jQuery team today were:

  • jQuery 1.3 compatibility

  • Revamped and optimized plugins

  • CSS framework

  • Themeroller v2

  • Demos & Documentation

  • Full offline documentation

  • Major website improvements

  • CSS framework and themes on Google AJAX Libraries API

  • Themes bundle

  • A new dedicated blog

The full post can be found here with all the details and news, and if you want to download the library, simply click here

The update can also be found and used via Google Ajax Libraries

Tip of the day: Regular Expression Generator

I have just came across this very nice service which promises to write Regular Expressions for you.

We all know how painful writing a regular expression can be, and on this website, you can not only have the pattern created for you, but also have it translated into the most common languages on the web.

I've tried it myself, and can say it's pretty darn good, although it's automatic generator gives you a lot of "functional-crap" sometimes, it's good for when you're in a hurry and need to have a pattern up and running, or is not very confident with regexps.

Check it out here

Quick and dirty jQuery drag & drop

I feel kinda bad to be calling this dirty, but mind you, I'm only using dirty as an expression, as it's freaking sweet.

In fact, I've been having a few ideas about using drag & drop for an open source application I've been thinking of, and decided to play with jQuery UI to do that.

The fine guys at Packt have recently sent me a jQuery UI 1.6 book and I've been able to come up with this
